Setup and permissions explained
On first launch the app opens a short setup guide. Every step is optional, but the alarms are only reliable when the permissions below are allowed.
Notifications
Alarms are shown as notifications, and the background service needs a notification to keep running. On Android 13 and newer you have to allow notifications, otherwise the app cannot alert you.
Run in the background (battery optimization)
Android may stop apps in the background to save battery. If that happens to this app, the alarms won't ring. Allow the app to run without battery restrictions (“Unrestricted” / “Don't optimize”). This has very little effect on battery life: the app only listens to battery events that Android already sends.
Alarm on the lock screen (full-screen alarm)
Lets the alarm open over the lock screen like a clock alarm instead of only showing a notification. On Android 14 and newer this permission may be off by default; turn it on in Settings › Apps › Theft & Battery Alarm › Full-screen notifications (name varies by phone).
Quick restart (alarms & reminders)
Lets the background service restart right away if the system closes it. Found under Settings › Apps › Special app access › Alarms & reminders.
Auto start / background activity (some brands)
Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, OPPO, realme, vivo, OnePlus and some other phones have extra power saving settings on top of Android's. When the app detects such a phone it shows an extra step. See battery settings by phone brand.
What the app does not ask for
The app does not need your location, contacts, camera, microphone or files. A Google account is only used if you choose to back up your settings to Google Drive, and your e-mail address only if you register it for theft alarm password recovery.
Checking permissions later
- Settings › Check permissions shows which permissions are still missing.
- The drawer menu item How to use opens the setup guide again.
- On some brands Settings › Device Specific Permissions and Auto Start Permission open the phone's own settings screens.
Still not working? Send us an error report from the app (how to) and we'll take a look.
